We at Roadburn are proud to announce the latest addition to Lee Dorrian‘s Rituals for the Blind Dead event, record producer, free improvisor, computer musician, noise aficionado, curator and collaborator Russell Haswell, who trained at Coventry School of Art, and graduated in 1991.
Known for his conceptual work, excoriating experimental electronics and collaborations with such avant-garde illuminati and extreme noiseniks as Masami Akita a.k.a. Merzbow, Florian Hecker, Earth, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Whitehouse, Yasunao Tone and Consumer Electronics. In addition, he has a long history in the Japanese noise scene, having and or recorded, performed or supported INCAPACITANTS, Corrupted and Pain Jerk. Haswell also supported G.I.S.M. in 2002 in Tokyo (in a trio with Merzbow and Zbigniew Karkowski).
This year’s curator, Lee Dorrian, has this to say about old hometown chum Haswell –
“I am totally delighted to announce the addition of the UK’s most extreme artist, Russell Haswell, to my curated Rituals for the Blind Dead event. Fellow Coventry-born Russ has actually been one of my very best friends since the mid 80’s, so it’s great to see him finally getting some much deserved, widespread recognition. To try and define what he does is not for me to even attempt, he creates his own sounds / music / noise / visuals without rules and without compromise. Don’t miss his unique performance!”
Russell Haswell will be playing at Roadburn 2016 as part of Lee Dorrian‘s curated Rituals for the Blind Dead on Saturday, April 16 at Het Patronaat in Tilburg, The Netherlands.
